Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One is a progressive all-risk fire department committed to exceptional service. The department is made up of ninety-eight full time employees and forty-five volunteers that serve a rapidly growing community of 45,000 residents, responding to 4,800 alarms last year. In addition to fire response, the department has an exceptional Medical Division that treats and transports both ALS and BLS patients. The department also has Special Ops, Hazmat, and Wildland Teams. Lastly, we are committed to exceptional training, and are in the process of completing a 20 acre training complex – which includes a 6 story training tower with live-fire training props.

Benefits & Total Compensation

  • FF/EMT wage: $4731 - $6732 per month
  • FF/PM wage: $5198 - $7398 per month(range based on experience at ’09 rate)
  • Excellent Medical, Dental & Vision Plans for Employees and Dependents
  • WA State Law Enforcement Officers & Firefighter (LEOFF) Retirement
  • Longevity Pay: 2% After Five Years up to Maximum 6% at 20 Years
  • Additional Paramedic Longevity Pay: 2 - 4%
  • Matching Deferred Comp Plan up to $475 Per Month (’09 rate)
  • Annual Training Bank: $500 per FF/EMT & $1,500 per FF/PM for approved training
  • Educational Incentive Pay: 2% AA Degree or 4% for BA or BS Degrees 50% Tuition &Materials Reimbursement
  • For Approved Fire & EMS Degrees
  • Work Schedule is "Modified Detroit 56" With 13 "Kelly Days" Per Year
  • 120 Vacation Hours – Increasing After Five Years, up to 312 After 25 Years
  • 96 Holiday Leave Hours Annually

Eligibility to Apply

Eligible applicants will meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum age 21 by date of hire
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Paramedics: Minimum 3 years of certification and experience
  • Meets minimum physical, medical and psychological standards
  • No tobacco use permitted
  • State of Washington Driver’s License
  • by date of hire
  • State of Washington EMT Certification
  • for FF/EMT by date of hire
  • State of Washington & Pierce County Paramedic Certification for FF/PM by date of hire.
