U.P. Firefighters Climb for a Cure
Want a spectacular view of Seattle? You can get one from the top of the Columbia Center, which stands as the second tallest building west of the Mississippi. Picture yourself climbing the 69 flights
of stairs and 1,311 steps to get to the tower's observation deck. Are your legs
and lungs burning yet? Now picture yourself climbing those stairs with
firefighting gear on and an air pack strapped to your back.
Crazy? Maybe, but on Sunday, March 2, 2008, it was reality for 1,300 firefighters. They donned their firefighting gear and climbed the Columbia Center to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Marney Mell and Pete Kilga, two of your U.P. Firefighters, made it to the top in this mental and physical challenge. Pete finished 10th overall and was the top finisher from Pierce County fire departments. Thank you Marney and Pete for 'climbing for a cure.' To donate to this cause click on the logo below.
